A. It is hard to tell unless you spend a good amount of time looking at various products. If time permits, I would recommend checking out a few stores before making your purchase. When looking at clothing, feel the material, inspect the stitching, make sure the zippers work well, etc... These items are common areas of poor quality products. They are also good things to insult about a product when trying to negotiate a price.
